Chickens in winter

When I lived in Wyoming, I had a screen enclosure around some raised beds for gardening. I wrapped it in plastic the first winter. It was not sealed tight, the snow would form 2-3" high snow drifts below the seams on top. I had spinach plants that survived the entire winter. They did not grow much, but they were green, healthy and alive all winter. I went out and gave them a little warm water about once a week or so.

Your chickens will be fine as long as you can vent the coop area to let out the hot moist air that the chickens breathe out all night.

I live in northern Utah this is my coop and sorry if this post was annoying, I'm really good at worrying

Absolutely no apologies from you. If you don't know, ask. And thank you for coming back with information. You don't know how frustrating it get when you ask for info and then hear nothing.

I don't live in that climate and avoid it in winter. I anticipate it can be pretty windy in winter and that you get below zero Fahrenheit temperatures. I saw that one town in Northern Utah is called Snowville. That sounds ominous.

Cold wind is probably your biggest threat. It's not just wind chill. Their down keeps them warm by trapping tiny air pockets that act as insulation If the wind ruffles their feathers and allows those air pockets to escape they lose insulation. Mine truly hate a cold wind.

I'm not sure what will be your best way, but wind protection is a great idea. As steep as that is you should not have to worry about snow piling up on it though you may get drifts against it.
