Was just checking out my youngest chicks. Almost 6 weeks old, and I think I can tell the sex of all but one or two. Of the 3 silver duckwing OEGBs, I have 2 boys, 1 girlThe lone Japanese, I am fairly certain is female. She's adorable. Of the 7 golden sebrights, I have either 5/2 or 4/3 females/males. I'm hoping 5/2 at best, one I'm not sure about. I was wrong with my 10-day prediction on 5 of the 7, basically backwards on early wing feathering. The males are a good bit bigger and their wings grew much faster. I thought the faster growing wings were the girls. Wrong. The two I was right about were hopeful guesses at that time.
Exactly!!
I've got a box MIA... :/ hasn't updated since it reached the point of origin main PO night before last... hoping it pulls an AmyP and shows up tomorrow before trackkling catches up... :/
You did, but I didn't see anything about how the light was supposed to behave. Be right back... Yep, right there on page 4![]()
And looks like I remembered wrong--I need to raise the temp 1 degree. Teeny-tiny turn, or don't bother? (Need 101.3, it's at 100.)
Ok, here is my chicken update. These Ams are gorgeous! I will get some pics up tomorrow. The problem now, though, is there are still 7 cockerels in the pen. They are starting to crow, and one is trying to mount the hens. My wife said when she got home Wednesday, 2 of the boys were really going at it, necks flared and all, and the girls were flying all around because they were scared. Time to thin the herd, so I have them advertised now. I know the keepers, one of each color. The black will be in the AM pen for sure, and I'm going to try and keep the splash in there as well, leaving the blue for the BCM pullets that are growing out. If I can't keep two boys in the Am pen, I may sell my Easter egger rooster in the mixed pen and replace him with the splash. I hadn't planned on keeping the splash, but he is gorgeous, and my wife is in love with him.
I'm also hoping that the pullets will start laying sometime in the next 3 weeks or so![]()

Nice update! Good luck selling the boys. I have one beautiful splash chick that hatched. I mean real good stock from what I can tell. And I'm sure it's a boy because it's HUGE! if it grows out as nice as I think I will keep it too and replace my white roo. He's getting nasty!
Those are good numbers!! I can finally tell the silkies apart! I thought I had mostly boys, 5 boys 2 girls and it's the opposite! And I have someone local that wants a boy and girl!
Did I tell you guys that one of my customers had sent me a picture of a cuckoo Silkie that they had bought? I didn't even know there was a Silkie in that color. It was interesting looking5 and 2 is good too! I really like the splash silkies! I'm going to look for a male silkie. Not for breeding, because my girls are low quality, but I think they need a boy![]()
