Man I feel bad for you guys if this is how marriage is for you....I love my hubby but I give him the freedom to do what he loves to do best.....fishing!!!! He just got back from a week long trip in Venice La.

Ross and WV you both have lucky husbands! My wife is very supportive and I'm headed out Elk hunting this weekend.

Nice!!!!! I am jealous he did go without me but there was no way we could afford us both going. It was on his bucket list. Lol!!! I grew up fishing too! But in Alaska. So you will never catch me buying salmon in a grocery store. I'm spoiled.

Here are some photos of me...

I was 5 months pregnant in the last photo. Lol!!!!
Great pics! Alaska is on my bucket list. I have been to a lot of places, but that one is tops for me.

Me and my little bro had some fun fishing in Mexico a few years back. I need to get to the ocean more often. My "little" brother is the one on the left.

I just bought a roll of greenhouse 6mil clear plastic for the run. Should be here today (love my Amazon). Any suggestions for putting it up on the run? Should I do the whole run or just the bottom few feet? I'm trying to winterize for the first time, this weekend.

That's a gorgeous fish. Sockeye, right? They are found by us as a filet in a freezer bag.

Michigan used to have a great Chinook fishery, but between the sea lampreys and the filter feeders that decimated the bait fish populations, there are not so many fish to catch. I used to fill my freezer and smoker every year. Now it's not worth the 160 mile round trip to the nearest salmon harbor.

Now THAT is something I could do every day. Nothing better than fresh mahi on the grill :thumbsup

Ok, I have a question for Y'all.

I have a small breeding group of SLW I have been selling eggs from. Same that created the chicks I posted earlier. I have been raising 4 Lavender Wyandottes all summer and I think they are laying eggs now.

I want to put the lavs (self blue) in with the SLW roo and pullets. I know the eggs will look the same, but what about the chicks? The chicks from the lavs will be split for lav. I know they won't be lav. But will they be black? All black? The lav wyandottes were built off of lav to black birds.

What I don't want is all SLW looking chicks. That would be worthless to me since I need to breed split to split later.

I guess I could do the food coloring in the vent trick.

Ravyn, I'm not sure if you are around today, but I think I figured out the look on the SLWxLav chicks.

I think they will be all black since they should carry the black EE and SLW are ebeb. I am guessing of course that the black Ee+ is dominant in phenotype to silver Ss+. In theory the chicks would have one E and one S. Does that sound right?

Sorry about this long quote. Busy couple of days. Sick baby and no sleep for me. Then my 8 yr old son went to visit his dad and cut his foot open but dad just put a bandaid on it. Get a call from the school nurse that he needs medical attention asap. I knew it was to late for stitches but didn't want to look like a bad parent. Spent the day in the ER with a sick baby just to be told....it's to late for stitches! Great move dad! Anyway-
your kidding, poor kid! they didnt have to open it up more did they!

I'm working on getting my parents to move off the ranch to a Gulf coast fishing cottage.

dunno, never used it, but since I have such prissy hens I am thinking about buying dollar store cheap tarps and putting nailing a few into the coop along the roof on the side above their ramps and angle down, out and stake into the ground so the snow slides off, so they come out into the sunshine somedays in the winter snow, the little princesses! Hubs keeps telling me how BAD this winter is going to be, so I better be ready!

Use furring strips for battens, do not rely on staples to attach the plastic. Use where the plastic is attached to the coop, as well as at the corners to prevent abrasion.

The roof and the N, E, and W sides at least should be shielded. Leaving the warm south side open will ensure good ventilation and limited wind.

The roof is the most important one in my climate, keeping most of the snow and rain out of the run makes for better run conditions. You will need to fabricate rafters to support the plastic so that rain and snow can slide off.

It's a Chinook. Just way up in a creek, that's why it's so red. When we catch reds they are normally silver. The ones where I was a little girl those are reds. The one where I have the fish in the water is a Steelhead. And then of course the rainbow trout. Lol!!
