Chickens mysteriously appeared in my garden.

Well, for now, it seems like these guys are staying with us. We can't possibly give them away in case someone does eventually come looking for them after a while; if that ever happens, until then they seem to have adopted us!

We will acquire a coop one way or another - either we will make one or get one ASAP.

It's a good thing we live in the country. I can't understand why anyone would abandon these poor creatures. :/

PS since you don't already have chickens and aren't mad at someone for dumping them, this is pretty exciting. I've always wished someone would "gift" me an animal, chickens, a friendly stray dog, a box full of kittens without a mother, a mini burro or a goat, haha. Enjoy them!

Oh, I am furious that someone dumped them, but I'm not mad at all that they ended up in our place ;) I have always grown up around animals and even now we have two dogs and a cat. From my five years of work experience in a pet shop I kept bringing home the loneliest animals. Lone rats, guinea pigs, fish, gerbils, hamsters... I could go on. I have never had birds at home, though! I've worked with parrots a lot and a small bit with chickens, so this is very very exciting!

Haha, I worked at a pet shop for years in my past, I totally understand. I'd bring home things like lizzards that were returned for some reason and couldn't be resold. This summer I brought home the last kitten from a litter that was on craigslist for ages and he was the one no one wanted. My dog was the puppy that was rejected at the rescue that no one else wanted to adopt and got returned on adoption day. My other cat I had jokingly said I wanted from a litter that was totally spoken for and had a "waiting list" well everyone that had previously committed backed out and I ended up with a cat. Enjoy them whether you have them short or long term, you clearly have a big heart.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you've joined us! Unfortunately, they were most likely dumped. They look like mutts but they're very pretty mutts. Roosters can live happily together in groups, even if there are hens as long as there are enough hens for them. I've had Batchelor pads with numerous roosters living together peacefully as well as a large flock with numerous roos mixed in (I think I have 12 right now?) We had to deal with this once when a very pretty gold laced polish roo showed up at our house. There is nobody nearby with chickens so I'm assuming he was dumped here. He was lucky enough to find himself a home the next day when someone coming to pick up chicks instantly fell in love with him.

G’Day from down under FellowshipOfTheCoop :frow Welcome!

Kudos to you for giving the guys a loving home :clap A huge thumbs down to whoever dumped them!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Thank you for caring about these dump-ees. If you get them into a coop - try to keep them inside for 3 days or so, with food & water. This is so they will imprint on your coop as being their home. Once let out, hopefully they will return to your coop at dusk every day. I would suggest having food/water inside the coop so they have a reason to keep coming back .

Chickens don't like to be caught, even sweet little pet chickens (darn you Lily!) Your best bet is to wait until they roost at night and then pluck them from their perches like the docile little apples they become! The second best would be to find a....box, cage, doghouse, thingamabobber for them to be in and bait it with food. Good luck! Can't wait to see the permanent home you rig for these fine fellows!
