That isn’t a complete diet. The scratch grains are of little nutritional value. It is commercial feed. The flock layer pellets, the grains, the corn, and the calcium.
Yes but we feed lots of fruits and veggies from the scrap bucket & they free range at least 8 hours a day. That isn’t a complete diet. The scratch grains are of little nutritional value.
Sorry, I didn't see the link for the feed for some reason. Haha.It is commercial feed. The flock layer pellets, the grains, the corn, and the calcium.
Well put, my thoughts exactly.Being that you have roosters too, feed them an All Flock/ Mixed Flock feed. Leave the oyster shell available for calcium. Only give them a few handfuls of grains per day. It’s a snack, and should not be used as a primary food source. Lack of proper nutrition could very well be part of your problem. Feed them a proper diet, and I’d bet your egg production goes up.
Buf if we were feeding them the same thing all year, what could have been the issue for the egg production drop?Being that you have roosters too, feed them an All Flock/ Mixed Flock feed. Proper nutrition would be free choice calcium, the current commercial pellets your buying offered day and night, and the scrap bucket. (As long as it contains no bread, rice, or "junk" food. Please avoid those foods, its not good for the flock.)Buf if we were feeding them the same thing all year, what could have been the issue for the egg production drop?
And what would you recommend as "proper nutrition"?
And the primary food source for them is the table scraps. They LOVE It and that's where they get most of their nutrition for the day.
I would say the dry feed takes up about 15% of their diet, considering each chicken only gets a few pieces of feed- sometimes none.Sorry, I didn't see the link for the feed for some reason. Haha.
How much of the diet does the feed take up? The grains and corn are probably just diluting the nutrients in the feed, I don't think you need to feed that. The commercial pellets and calcium are all you need to supply them with. Plus the kitchen scraps is probably just fine.
How much do you feed 25 chickens morning and night?
