I have a very puzzling problem. Throughout the winter and her in spring I leave a light on in my chicken coop so that my chickens hav about 14 hrs of light and do not go into molt and continue laying. However about 2 weeks ago I forgot to to turn the light off and the light was on all night. Since then I have only collected 9 eggs a day from my 12 chickens, where before I routinely collected 11 or 12 eggs a day. Did I throw off their rythym & are they starting to molt?

If your girls have been laying all winter then they may very well be hitting a moult. One night with a hiccough won't be enough to mess up their laying cycle. The evidence should be showing soon with the loss of feathers and the decrease in egg production. I think it is safe to say a probable molt. Steve
