IF you find you do have issues with the low roof, you could probably take off the existing roof, add 2 more feet to the walls, and put the roof back on

Or close off the bottom by adding walls, remove existing floor(or most of it) and make it all 'coop'.

I think when our girls were about 10-11 weeks old, we went out to the coop after dark and physically moved them one by one onto the roost bars. We have a poop board so really wanted to contain the overnight poop. After 3-4 nights they started roosting on their own at dusk. Not sure if you have room to do that in your coop - but if you do they will learn that is where they're supposed to sleep.
