Two of my hens liked sitting on the chain link fence (on the side towards my deathly-afraid-of-any-living-creature neighbor). I would just go talk to them and take them off. Then I would walk over to the other side of the yard and set them down. They eventually stopped after about a month. One little pullet (laid her first egg yesterday!) would hop off the other side. I let her stay just long enough to get scared (they don't really like to be away from the flock). When Squawk starting squawking, I climbed over and got her. She doesn't do it anymore either. I only have five and they don't get to range unless we are home as we live in the city. When they are out, I try to hang out with them for at least a few minutes every hour or so. They have also adopted my dog and two cats. Basically, chickens like to be sociable. Make them want to stay where you want them to stay.
It works for me. Hope it helps.
