Chickens outside?!?!

Is there something on top to keep them from flying out?
I have BO's and BR's. Not sure if 4' would hold them.
Dan.

THey don't try and fly out. I think that since they think they are free ranging they don't have the need. It works great for me and them. Dan, I also have BO's and BR's and others including leghorns who are extremely flighty, but no problems whatsoever.

Had a barred rock fly up onto a 60" wire fence and perch on it. She is the runt of the whole bunch too. She was with me in my fenced garden, sort of a pet. I made my pen 6' tall 2x4 welded wire electrified outside and inside with an additional layer of 24" tall chicken wire to keep chooks from sticking their heads thru for mr raccoon when he comes around. My run has woods on 2 sides.

You can make a circular pen to drag about by using 1/2" pvc pipe in 20 ft length glued together. It is very flexible and 5 such pieces would make a circle of about 30 ft diameter. You could then fasten 2x4 welded wire fencing to that and drag it anywhere. you could put aviary netting, deer netting, or chicken wire over it to keep hawks out too, It would be very lightweight. You need a reasonably level grade to do this tho. Hillly or bumpy ground no good for this.
