Could you accidentally be training them to do this? When they pace along the fence line, you said you respond by throwing them treats, giving them more water, tossing them bugs. They may have figured out that their behavior results in a reaction from you: you give them goodies. Perhaps the appropriate thing is to simply ignore them. Don't look at them or talk to them or acknowledge them in any way. Just go about your business and do what you have to do. Eventually they will get interested in something else. Caution, however: this will get worse for a few days before it gets better. Steel yourself! Do not give in to their demands! Resist the guilt trip, lol. Treat them when YOU choose to, on YOUR schedule, not theirs. Good luck!
