Hello from NC. My name is Salim. I’m not totally new to chickens but I’m still figuring things out. I’ve had them twice but have had to restart again due to various issues. Both previous flocks I had were already layers and I think that was where my problems came from. The girls were already so accustomed to free ranging a farm and weren’t happy with the limited space of my yard. This season, I’ve started from scratch. I LOVE LOVE LOVE having a basket of rainbow eggs. My new flock will have a black copper maran, an easter egger, an olive egger, a sapphire gem, and a calico princess. I’m hoping that hand raising them myself will lead to friendlier more docile girls.

My mother got me into chickens. She hasn’t 2 dozen Rhode Island reds that I just fell in love with.

I have 4 children, 2 dogs, and 2 cats.

Glad to be here!

Welcome to Backyard chickens Salim, it's very nice to meet you. When you raise birds from little chicks, they get socialized a lot more than when you buy an older bird. Also when they grow up with your rules - coop and run, etc. they will not expect to be free ranged.

G'Day from down under Salim :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock and/or other critters, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.
