Hi

I have two buff orpingtons, they both showed signs of mycoplasma, had them put on Tylan when taken to the vets, they have been given 10 days on it, and after a week, one is recovered, one isn't. Why isn't the other one better? Additional info -- both are 5 and 1/2 months and weigh 4.3 lbs. have not started laying.

Tylan reduces deaths but doesn't knock out the bacteria. There are no effective treatments. Mycoplasmosis may be a reportable disease in your state. Your vet may/should know this.
Try to eliminate crowding, ammonia, dust, worming and other stressors.
I believe there is a vaccine for it.
If possible, move your birds to new quarters and completely disinfect their coop. Then move them back in a few weeks.
How much ventilation do you have per bird?

Some respiratory diseases can build up immunity to drugs, so you may have to switch drugs. There is one called Denagard (tiamulin) that is used for resistant bacteria. It is expensive and very bad tasting. Many people on BYC have used it. QC Supply sells it, and there is another version called Chevimulin available online for pigeons.
