TrystInn and Cmom nailed it. Calf-Manna is another high protein thing to give them to jump start them during and after molt. I would not do lights until they are done molting. Some believe that artificial lighting shortens their lives too. I do not use it.
Mine are almost 7 mo old now and molted in Sept. They began to lay in Oct and of my flock of 24 I get consistently 18-20 eggs a day. I have done nothing with extra light or anything. My feed is a blend of 15% grower- finisher and 16% layer, Dumor brand. So I have done nothing special that I know of to be getting such good performance. I did feed them live greens from Day 1 and that has never stopped. They get more of veggie and fruit scraps than they do scratch grain. I do maybe 2 or 3 cups of scratch a day. They do have a really big run at 2,000 sq ft and a big coop at 8 x 16. It could be that all of what I did just adds up . I have been blessed in this flock.
