Chickens traumatized?

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Sorry to hear of the attacks! We get lots of coons here too. They are masters at opening latches and ripping chicken wire. We've had to use carabiners, hardware cloth and hog panels to keep them as well as bears and bobcats out.

Chickens take a while to recover from trauma. Some people may call chickens stupid but they sure don't forget things! They'll remember the attack for weeks. Try and keep their life as stress free as possible while they are recovering. Stressed chickens can become ill and stop laying. Music, cuddling and time inside and blow dryers can help calm their nerves.

Good luck!

How sad that they were so badly traumatized? I wonder if spending some time with them before they would be going to roost would help calm them. Do you know how the predator got in? When they are successful, they will be back for more.

Well are you chickens going into their coop yet ?????
