Are you using cage traps? The mink is still coming by during the day. I have two traps out and he got the bait out of both of them without getting caught. I am hoping tomorrow will be my lucky day. My poor birds won't come down off their roosts.
Yes. It stole the bait out of the small one. It set off the big one and managed to escape with the bait because somehow a branch (that was not there when I set the trap) managed to stop the trap from closing. Are you using cage traps?
Got him. Is it like rats..could there be more than one?You have to wire the bait securley in the back of the trap so they have to work to get it out.
A fresh killed pine squirrel works great, cut him open first.
Test fire your trap a few times so you know it is not hanging up. Figure out how to set it hair trigger. Traps on certain angles will not work correctly.
Your mink is a serious adversary and every time he gets away with it,he is getting smarter.
I am hoping today is the day you catch him!
I shot it. It was very quick and painless. I did explore all options as you probably read in this thread. But at the end of the day I cant subject anyone else to this and I didnt want it to sufferdo you have a freind that has a gun and will be willing to let you(or they could do it themself) use there gun? becouse what are you going to do when you catch the mink? let it go on someone elses property and give someone else a mink problem? NO. you need to shoot it whether its in the trap or not
