Chickens under attack!!

The mink is still coming by during the day. I have two traps out and he got the bait out of both of them without getting caught. I am hoping tomorrow will be my lucky day. My poor birds won't come down off their roosts.

You have to wire the bait securley in the back of the trap so they have to work to get it out.
A fresh killed pine squirrel works great, cut him open first.
Test fire your trap a few times so you know it is not hanging up. Figure out how to set it hair trigger. Traps on certain angles will not work correctly.
Your mink is a serious adversary and every time he gets away with it,he is getting smarter.
I am hoping today is the day you catch him!

Everything above is exactly what I was going to say. Also if your cage trap has a solid metal pan for the animal to step on you can cover the inside completely with pine needles and leaves. Some animals will avoid stepping on the bare metal and reach over.
You can cover the cage too with some leaves and brush just make sure you you don’t block the door or get anything under the pan.
The hair trigger that 50-45-1 already mentioned is important since mink aren’t that heavy. Good luck!!

do you have a freind that has a gun and will be willing to let you(or they could do it themself) use there gun? becouse what are you going to do when you catch the mink? let it go on someone elses property and give someone else a mink problem? NO. you need to shoot it whether its in the trap or not

I shot it. It was very quick and painless. I did explore all options as you probably read in this thread. But at the end of the day I cant subject anyone else to this and I didnt want it to suffer

Mink are solitary predators. Most likely that was the only one.
If you have any interest in such things, mink hides are thin enough that they can be preserved just by sprinkling the meat side with borax. It won't be pliable without proper tanning, but skinning the mink and keeping the hide as a wall mount would be easy. Or you could put it under a large flowerpot for a few months and let the insects clean the bones off if you want to keep those. Assuming that's legal in your area, which it probably is since mink are fur-bearing animals.
