chickens wasteing alot of feed

do not they poop in it too?

I never noticed a problem even when I had 2,000 chickens feed this way.

We had the same problem with laying mash. Switched to pellets and very little waste now. Paying more for Organic pellet feed but with less waste I think we are about even. Also, now I can put the bedding right into my planting beds and not have to worry about all that seed in the laying mash.

I bought a chicken house with a hanging feeder. I was told to adjust the feeder even with the backs of my chickens and they wouldn't waste their feed. It sure seems to be working well. I'm not cleaning up nearly as much feed as before if any. Now I need to get cleaner more efficient with their water.

We actually took it off the chain and just sit it on the ground in the one coop that it pretty new and the litter is not that deep yet. Our older coop with much deeper litter sits on top of a mason block. They seem to swing the feeder around on the chain. With that said I did notice a hen sitting on the edge of the feeder and eating out of the top but since it was on the floor it did not fall over. I'll try and get a picture of it and post for you.

I use pine shavings on my floor and change it out once a week so I know I'm not having much wasted feed. I just set my 7 gal water fount (I just fill it half way to save water getting so icky) one level of bricks higher and the water isn't getting as dirty. How on earth does the water in that tank get so yucky when it just fills into the bowl as they drink! It's not like chickens can backwash into the dern tank!!!

Who is using those water nipple thingies? I think I need to try some. Would sure save me hauling some water in winter.
