Hi everyone I have two chickens with colds right now, a red pyle OEG pullet and a dark brahma pullet, both sneeze and the red pyle has a runny beak.

Any ideas on how I can cure them? any input is good input thanks in advance!

hi there

get teramicytin you can get it at tsc or any feed store and just follow the directions, it comes in powder form and give that to them for a week or two and they will be okay. its easy to mix with thier water and they will drink it without a prob.

There is a product called "VetRx" I found it at Jeffers Pet Supply. Its kind of a maintenance medicinal. You might want to think of for the future. I haven't tried it yet but have it ordered.

Good Luck with you flock.

Depending on what they have, there may be no cure-many diseases in chickens that people mistakenly call "colds" are diseases that make them carriers for life, able to pass disease to other birds even when they dont seem sick themselves. Terramycin is useless, especially if it's infectious Coryza, Chronic Respiratory Disease (CRD), etc. Tylan is the preferred antibiotic for most of the things chickens get which are respiratory. Some treat for those, some cull the birds. Check out these articles to start:

Here are a couple more that are great to read:

It's imperative that people understand this stuff or they risk spreading it to other flocks. I'd love to get the notion out of people's heads that chickens get head colds like people do. It's not something most people know, but if you have chickens, you need to know this stuff.

Thanks for the suggestions, if I narrow it down do you think you could more accurately tell what the problem is? My red pyle is sneezing, has mucus running from the nose which often bubbles when she breathes.

hope to hear from you soon.

So many diseases with chickens have similar symptoms and I'm not a veterinarian. Many of these diseases respond to the same antibiotics, so if you are going to treat them, Tylan or Gallimycin would do, I would think. The problem is you wont be sure they are not carriers of something and there's no way to say without testing for certain what they have. If you smell the bird around the head and he/she doesnt have a very foul (no pun intended) odor, then at least, it is not Coryza.

Tylan 50 injectable is available at most farm/feed/livestock stores, such as Tractor Supply Co.
Tylan also comes in water soluble form
the Gallimycin (erythromycin..sometimes called Ery-mycin)is also available at these stores, or online..

most things will be found in the LIVESTOCK section..not the poultry section.

give them some extra protein..cooked egg, etc..
