I hope, than with some time and some of the suggestions others have given, that your chickens will help you with the composting.
I think someone suggested not feeding them until an hour before bedtime? If not, I suggest it. Hungry birds will go a digging for food.
* I did adopt some roosters that had no idea what a bug was or how to forage. It took them between 1-2 months to finally get it from being forced to (again, I don't make feed available all the time) and from watching other chickens.
