Hello there fellow chicken enthusiasts! I want to start out by saying I've had chickens for my whole life, and I've never seen this in any of them. However, for the past 6 months my sweet barred rock Ranny, has had a swollen hard red bottom with missing feathers. She has to waddle to move and sometimes i'll see her kick her leg back when it really bothers her. Just today I walked out to see another of my girls with a similar-looking bottom but still has quite a few feathers and when I poked at her bum, it was squishy unlike ranny's. She seems to have some other underlying health issues as well, we suspect salmonella but have yet to do a fecal test. Her poop is watery whitish green diarrhea probably related to the other sickness.
So far, I have tried some salves and have been giving her probiotics in her feed as well as garlic for natural antibiotics. She is isolated from the rest of the chickens with two other birds who also seem to have the salmonella related disease. Any advice is appreciated!!

Do you have photos?

Is she laying eggs?

She may be having some reproductive problems like EYP, Salpingitis, Cancer, etc. this can cause the abdomen to become distended. Sometimes fluid can accumulate in the abdomen as well, this is a symptom called Ascites.
