If you had two coops that you attached to the run would the chickens only use one of them or both by maybe seperating? I was wondering if you could do that instead of having one big space.

If the separate flocks are used to going to their respective coops, they MIGHT continue to do so. Otherwise, they would likely all crowd into one coop at night.

Mine have always had two coops, but they always try to stay together. I have to trick them by tossing a handful of treats into one coop in the evening, and shutting the door as soon as the right number has gone in. Then I toss treats into the other coop to get the rest cooped up. I can't wait to finish building my new coop so they can all just wander in together like they want to.

I got one coop, but three runs. Each run has it's own door. I can direct the chickens to new ground by opening and closing doors.

I have one run attached to two coops. It helps keep the boys from fighting at night. They choose whichever one they want to go to at night, but they are creatures of habit and each one has his/her own favorite roosting spot. Our duck goes to whichever (4 total) coop he wants to.

Great thread! I have two coops, my 7 sleep in one of 'em (but go search for bugs in the second one!), but I'm adding 2 to the flock today and will keep them secured in the second coop for a while.

But I'm gonna build a third coop and hope everybody likes IT best, when I'm done.
