my rooster had something pull a lot of his tail feathers out a few days ago. I pulled all the blood feathers, and put blue kote on. I have had him seperated for him to heal. Last night I put him back in with the girls to roost because I saw no blood or red. He was a little red, but no blood on the area today. Watched for awhile, and noticing a hen peck at him a little here and there, so i decided to put more blue kote on him. After applying it, the hens started pecking at him more. Now he is sepersted again. What am i doing wrong? It seems like they are attracted to the blue kote. Not to mention he has a huge spot on his back above his vent that is missing feathers. How long do i keep him separated, so the girls won’t peck at him anymore?

I would keep him separated until his feathers grow back in. Chicken do that. Anything unfamiliar, or interesting looking, just go peck it. Then that may make it red, or they just find it fun, so they keep doing it.

x2 with Crazy for Chickens! If you can pinpoint the main bullies, I would take them out and isolate them for a while. It would lower then down in ranks.

How long does it take for feathers to grow back? The only place i can put him is one part of the coop that is seperated. He is so aggetated and stressed from being seperate. I don’t think he is eating well either.
