Chickens won't roost

I have a problem with two pullets roosting in nesting boxes and since then the hens stopped using those two and 4 are laying in one box, I cleaned out the poo and hay out of the two the other day and hens laid in there but stopped after that night when they were again roosted in, not sure how to proceed from here

My chickens have NEVER roosted.. not for the whole year I've had them. They cuddle together on the floor of the coop. They also don't use the nesting boxes.

Mine started after changing from a wood rod to 1x4, laid horizontally, as suggested by another poster.

The pullet still sits in the sand, however. I know she can reach it because she can jump on my shoulders!
