chickens

Ok. thanks wow i did not realize the square footage I was worried it would be too small what with about 4 sq ft per bird and all but I am glad to hear it's plenty big enough for the amount of chickens I want. and those coop pictures are cool. Thanks. And as for the nest boxes and perch could I maybe put 2 boxes on each side and then the perch along/on the back wall but make all raised up off the floor so as not to interfere with floor space? And also how big do the nest boxes need to be? Those coops are awesome. And yes they will have a run, a pretty large one at that. A few years ago our neighbor Mac moved. Mac had a yellow lab named Casey that was his daughters dog (Mac was/is older and we recently found out he married some lady I forget who though but anyways,) and Casey would always come say hi to Bailey and hang in our yard and stuff. Mac and Casey have since moved but when they still lived here they had a dog kennel in the backyard for Casey and so when they moved they gave it to us but we never used it because 1 we didnt really want it in the first place and 2 we thought it was too small for our dog and/and also we thought it would be mean to put him in it so its been sitting up on the hill for years. It's a chain link fence dog kennel so we were thinking we could move the dog house up onto the hill (my dad thinks they smell, I think the dog house is fine where it is) and put the dog house in the dog kennel and that could be the coop and I was thinking we could raise the "coop" up off the ground like on stilts and have a ladder down into the run. And then we would/could cover the top of the run with some kind of screening so hawks and stuff cant get in. They also gave us chicken wire to bury under the kennel so the dog couldnt dig OUT but since we didnt put a dog in it we can instead use it to keep critters from getting/digging IN. Then put some plywood sheets in the 2 corners of the run maybe under the coop so no coons and what not can get em. Also where would we put the food and water dishes in the coop and run? And what bedding should I/we use? thanks

i have to check how big my husband made our boxes. I uses deep litter method cause mine sits on the ground but i do put hay in there and they like it. I have my water and foodoutside in my run. I know some put water inside as well but i do not. I also don't close my coop door since my run is pretty safe.
It's great you have material and do enclose the run so hawks and such can't get them. Burry the wire or hardware cloth. On my BYC page i have pic's of out coop/pen and run

Your coop and run and stuff looks great sillystunt very cool and those iron gates are real nice, why would someone toss them? Oh well you know what they say: One man's trash is another man's treasure! Haha lol

Ahhhhh clementine juice in the eye! sorry random/brief hijack (of my own post) but I am peeling a clemi now and the juice from it went in my eye and stung

lol, it was a young couple and we were down the beach. I saw them take them to the curb and i turned around. i was like are you tossing these. This young girl was like, yes they are so ugly, red and i tried to paint them white...I HATE THEM.
Ok, i took them painted them black and they are awesome!!!

Oh thats cool and its funny how some people (like young peeps too exspecially) can hate something and then other peeps (like older peeps or other young peep or whoever) can love something, the same thing. And yes clementine juice stings if it gets in your eyes, its citris it like burns i was like literally in pain even when I wiped my eye and it still kinda stings a bit haha lol those danged clemis haha lol have you ever tried them? they are like mini oranges, basically they are, but better like way better. You must have, in Florida exspecially. They are deliscious (I dont think I spelled that right). so good. haha lol we are talking about citris fruits now haha lol
