chickenstock 2 for oxford maine- August 15th

No Jerry, I did not find anyone at this time. I will put a word out for them in the poultry club come Monday for you.

I'm excited, 6 am and I'm moving! See you there!

Wow, good afternoon everyone! What a fun day, maybe we didn't sell a lot but it was great to visit and meet new friends!
What a big selection of birds, bunnies, goats, crafts and items. Dogs to show off, breeds were different!
We even had calves sold! Imagine! How great.

Bill Morrison came, I did let everyone know why, and that they could refuse. Bill said that he was surprised with 100% cooperation and peoples questions were answered by one of the folks that know the laws. We did learn about Scrapie (?) for goats and you can fill out an application (free) and recieve free tags to place on your goats for sale/trade. (I am clueless about this topic)

PRF- DW was there with baby pigeon to show feeding. Sorry she had to go early and she will bring baby to the next meeting for show and tell. Looks interesting either way.

Have a great rest of the day!

I hereby ban myself from any more chickenstocks....

I tried to reduce my flock by bringing 5 to get rid of. I ended up bringing home 8.....

but did you sell any that you brought?

Yup. I traded 2, sold 3, bought 6.

see it's like an even swap, you didn't come home with what you brought so that's a plus.

I was half expecting my dad to be mad me but he was eager to help me set up a place for the babies and sort out the adults so everyone was happy. My mom is secretly hoping one of the silkie chicks will be a roo so she can breed it to one of our nn's

Sorry we missed all you guys today

We were headed that way and just got such a late start getting out of here we never would have made it before everyone left. Sounds like it was a great day, boy did it get hot....

Hi Jerry, if you log on, I found some Marans for you, atleast another name for you to try! Wow, the variety of birds is unreal! I only hope I can figure out each breed.
Now I want you guys to do something for me. Science project of sorts.
I heard a story a year or two ago, it came up at the event yesterday... Now, when you have your next batch of chicks, 1 day olds, take them by the feet and hang them upside down- be gentle!!! please, notice the direction of the head. Does it lay on the the crop or swing backwards towards their back. I was told by a man that his dau worked for a hatchery that used this method and I'm wondering how true it is. I never thought to try it on my own.
G2G and share other tidbits with you...oh, and Lucy went broody yesterday & day before- I hoped that I was wrong, but nopers. Which brings another story.

so I'm guessing the birds that hold their heads to the crop are girls and the ones that look down are boys? my 3 boys (sexed as day 1) at 3 weeks, will come after my hand when I go to feed them and the unknowns will back off. hoping they are girls.
