Shay, my little baby is normal feathered like its dad. Since it has normal feathers, would you be able to tell its gender at 8 weeks (the Sept swap)?? I'll be crushed if it's a boy. It is my little baby. I hatched her- a single egg all by herself- and she is the best little love ever, I'm sure she thinks I am her momma hen. Really hoping its a she so I can keep her. Otherwise, with the normal feathers, I am afraid nobody would want it ifs it a roo (since he will only have 50/50 silkie showgirl babies), and I CAN'T EVER allow it to be be someone 's dinner

If it turns out be a boy i will take it, and have it with my regular egg layers so you dont have to worry about him.

I believe here in NH we can shoot them any time of year. My husband found the feather pile from the impact of a hawk in he leach field where they hang out during the day, no sign of the smaller chick or the roo and I have seen several hawks in trees at the same time in the past in the yard, so my guess is hawk.

Has anyone ever had 2 young Toms vie for your attention? I have a Spanish (Antonio) & a Grey Slate (Silver) who are constantly trying to one-up each other in getting my attention...like I'm a girl turkey!
LOL
