Oh, I am sorry to hear this. That is the worst when you cannot figure which bird they got. I used to love hawks and their regalness, but now I can say I just about hate them! When i am driving and see tons of pigeons sitting on the power lines i wonder why they are not picked off by the hawks? They must like chicken better. I am going to make a scarecrow and put it out there next, but seeing as how this hawk swoops at me, I doubt a scarecrow will even phase him in the least.

Sarah says the same thing about coons now, she used to love them til they got her Tom Turkey....

The general consensus is a covered run.

This is what is sleeping right above the garage right now.
We called animal control and they won't come out. They said they are not climbing a tree to risk getting bit in case it does have rabies so the heck with my five dogs and my sons three. I guess we will be walking the dogs for potty until we are sure it is gone.

Not a very good sign that is is sleeping in a tree in the daylight. It may be sick and not able to get to its' usual nesting spot. Keep an eye on it for sure.

My run is covered but if the hawk wants a meal, they will get in. The netting acts as a deterent, but I found him in the run one day, he managed to find a spot in the netting that was not zip tied as close together and got in. You should have seen me chasing him around in there to put the fear of the chicken lady on him! Maybe that is why when he sees me out there he dive bombs me now!

That's what I said, you don't usually see racoons out at all during the day unless they are sick. I just took one of the pups for her three year rabies shots yesterday. Good thing I keep them all up to date on shots. I found it odd that it was in a wide open tree instead of like a pine tree where it could hide.

To fix my predator problem I had to put 1" chicken wire on top of my run and secure it every 2-3" with cable ties. The plastic netting didn't work.

Anyone interested in a "pumpkin"(?) OEGB or a gold laced bantam cochin (both cockerels)? The OEGB is super tame and sweet. He loves being held and petted. I love his coloring and was hoping to use him for breeding projects, buy my eyes are always bigger than my coop! And the collective crowing is getting out of control...

I guess you'll never have to worry about any strangers walking into your yard!

Remember the tiny faverolles pullet the kids got from you? She's still the tiniest fav pullet I've ever seen. Here she is with friends.

She's on the left here, with a normal sized bantam fav in front of her. She's about half the size.

Here's she's in the middle, small even compared to silkies.

She sure stays warm at night though. She gets lost in the fluff of all those big birds!
