some questions on this, since I live in CT:

Is this for any birds crossing state lines? how do I go about doing this? and will I get in trouble if I have chickens illegally (like will my town get a copy and find out?) Health certificate???

Yes all birds from other states must have an entry permit to enter any other state. you call the NH Agriulture dept and they will ask for your NPIP # or proof from a vet that the birds are Influenza and Pullorium free.
Most all state rewuire this, it is to keep pullorium out of other states. Also if there is an out break you will be notified of the out break and ways to handle the diesease.

No your town wil not find out. the only time they will find out is if there is an outbreak in your area. I believe there is a percentage of miles around you.

Health certificate comes from your vet, he tests your birds to insure and certify they are free from disease.

Well, that's bad news. When I bought them at Agway, I asked if they were vaccinated and they said they were, but gave me no paper of proof and my vet does not do that. So I guess I am out of luck. Guess I can't go. If there is ever a meet in CT I could do that, right? Not crossing state lines then. But there are none planned for now.

My guess (as much as I was trying to avoid this, or to tell my daughter this) they will have to be someone's dinner, because I won't be able to get them to a meet even though I wanted to

If they came from a hatchery then your state already has the NPIP number from the Hatchery, you can contact the hatchery and I think its only 1.00$ to get the paper that says they were vaccinated at ship out.
then all you would need to do is fax it to the AGI Ma office and she will send you an entry number.
IT has only became an issue recently.

Edited becaue I forgot which state I was talking about : the rules are the same for most every state though.

ok, so I could contact Agway then? But I have no proof that I bought them there, so I don't think they would give me anything. I don't remember even getting a cash register receipt from them, though they may have (usually get one when you buy something) and I could've dropped/lost it. Without proof of buying them there, I can't get a #, can I?

All I know is I bought them at the Plainfield CT Agway on Sun 5/9.

I am sure some one in there will remember you buying chicks. give them the exact date and ask for the NPIP number that came on their control slip.
Is this an Agway you often frequent? if so they will/should remember who bought birds.

Unfortunately, no. It's not a place I normally go to, so I doubt they remember me being there

I would go and ask for it anyway. cant hurt unless its a special trip or out of your way to do so.
give the the date and how many chicks you purchased and ask for the NPIP number. most agways are more than willing to help people out.
