I once had a lone duckling that got used to me putting my hand over it to calm it down. I ended up blowing up a dish-washing glove and standing it up in the brooder. He loved sleeping under his "hand mommy" LOL.

We have used lots of different things and never heard of that one either.

the one in teh video is a hen,
the other 2 are likely also,
the one thing with RIR is the hens have red combs and whattles, same with NH reds,.
Agway rarely gets straight run chicks unless they are specifically marked.

I have 6 out in the coop I am babysitting for that out of 6 2 have red whattles and combs. but they are hens.
production red birds are n ot cculled for the more cream combs that most show and breeders like to see,
bring them to the swap and we will go over them.
and lert you know.
roosters at this age will show pointed neck hackles.

that is what i was thinking also, they look like pullets to me, but would be better to see them in person.

It will be interesting to find out for sure. The other 2 RIR started to get big combs, while the 3rd RIR and my RSL's didn't (all looked the same). So I thought maybe the other 2 were roos... but then SO many people said all 3 were roos (imagine my surprise because they were not straight run, they were supposedly sexed!) Someone said that RIR are notorious for early combs, but then everyone else said that wasn't true at all, and that RIR never get combs like that at this age (even Violet's which is nothing like the other 2!)

I was really thinking that Violet was the only hen. So now I really have no idea at all! lol I will bring all 3 then and leave it in the hands of the experts!

I bet you'll all be able to tell in person. Atleast I hope so! lol

The problem with thise who say RIR do not get early combs is because theyare not dealing with hatchery stock.
most all hatchery stock will develpe combs early on. they are not weeded out for perfection, they are basically bred for production.
thats what make a huge difference
