URI = upper respiratory infection, I lost a lot fo birds to it about a month after that show. The year before I had bought some birds off these 2 guys, and they all came down with it and died, and 2 other people I know got birds from them and they also died. I stayed clear of them when I saw them there last year, but that is not to say it wasnt something either airborne or transfered from other people handilng birds from them , then handling other birds, etc, etc... By the time I finally traced back to where my birds could have been exposed, it came down to that shw but by then I had lost a lot of my flock. There were several of us that seemed to have the same issue with that darn URI that time.

Thank you soo much for the info. I am going to go look it up now

The Northeast Avicultural Society holds a meeting and a swap the first Sunday of each month, except for July and August, at the Westford Sportsman's Club. You have to be a member to sell but anyone can buy. You can find just about anything with wings there - cage birds, chickens, turkeys, game birds, waterfowl, etc - along with rabbits, supplies and even goats. All flocks must be tested (but yours already have).

Here's the link to the NAS

And the link to the Westford thread. As we get closer to the next swap the date will be updated and there will be more activity on the thread. The next one is May 1. Unfortunately the one in June is the same day as the Oxford show, so a lot of us have to choose one or the other!

I am definitely going to try and go to it

I have two rabbits that have been a living nightmare to find homes for, so hopefully this might be a tad bit more helpful!

I hope to see you come to Westford Beth!! Just remember that they start at 8am PROMPT and sometimes a little earlier,so plan ahead to get there early for best selection. The swap ends at about 10:30am and they usually have an auction of what people do not want to bring home and stuff goes for very reasonable prices most of the times!

Also, most of the people who sell at Westford are not BYC members. So what you see people list here is a small fraction of what is actually brought for sale. You never know what you'll find.

So would you say there are at least got as many chickens for sale as the boston poultry show? How do you all set up there to sell? I know you mentioned paying dues that I don't mind but I guess I need a better picture of it to decide. Its a 3 hour drive and for me to get there by 7:30 I would have to leave 4:30am! Whoa that sure is early eh? I really was going to go to The show to sell my silkie chicks due to hatch tomorrow and some araucana chicks. Of course I have two adults to sell too. Then I have 10-12 ducklings that will be 3 wks old. So Darbella and Keesmom which one would you go to if the URI thingy wasn't an issue and you based it on sales? I appreciate any feedback. Thanks, Beth

Oh and I am desperate to find some black bantie cochins to breed to my blues and help the color. Then I need Black orps and giant black cochins

I have a pair of nice black bantam cochins that I can bring to either Westford or Townsend. Will post pics tomorrow.

I will be putting together a list of lots of birds I need to sell off. I need to downsize AGAIN due to recurring medical issues - so frustrating!

Oh I am sorry to hear about your health! I to just went through a very long medical issue. I was bed ridden from Nov to Feb spending most my time at Tufts medical in Boston. I just got back on my feet and lost a lot of birds bc my husband had to sell some off due to the feed bills and he spread himself to thin caring for me at the same time

But, I would love to see some pics of your black banties! How old are they? Are they tested for AI and S. Pullorum?

Thank you,
-B-
