2014 will be the 3rd Annual Rocky Mountain Chickenstock in Idaho Falls. We held the first two events on the 1st Saturday of May but are considering when to hold it in the future. Both years so far, we have had cool weather and a little rain. What is your vote for the best weekend to have the event??

The only downside to later is the chicks get started later :) I like to have mine over and done with by this time....but the weather would be nicer and more people may travel when kids are out of school so I can see why later might work for a lot of people...but then people are busy camping/reunions/vacationing and whatnot. Tough decision!

All I know is it is fun, and I will make the trip whenever I can for sure! ;)

If I remember right the 4H kids need their chickens for 90 days prior to show; if a later date conflicts with that there may be a problem.

Also, the hotter weather may bring out more people AND the kids will be out of school however the heat is harder on the young poultry.

Just my thought

True~! The colder weather was just a bout right for chicks to be in the car without the lamp on and stay warm when the sun was out :)

sounds like we need to find out about the 4h shows - since this event is targeted at 4H families.

I am going to withhold my vote then.. because i am so far away and i agree that we need to really cater to what the requirements are for the kids. unless the target market is changing...

all good points!! I was thinking that June would be good, would give more time to grow stuff out, but also then it would be in my garage longer, lol!

I just signed my son up for 4H - and yes, the birds they intend to show must be in their care for 90 days prior to the fair. Unless the fair in Idaho Falls is in August, even the 1st of May would be too late (that is, if i'm counting right, lol) ... Can anyone get a calendar?

so, if 1st of May is too late, then I still vote for the first part of June, so the family and I could hit up the zoo, park, etc :)

I was unable to make the Chickenstock this year, but with everyone saying they would like to have more chicken events, it would be nice to have the Chickenstock on a weekend where it does not conflict with the Rocky Mtn Poultry show in Hamilton Mt. The Rocky Mtn Poultry show has been held the 1st weekend of May for over 10 years.
