I have blue, black and splash standard Cochin chicks, plus wyandotte mix chicks. (st run)

I also have a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte roo looking for a nice home.

Now to decide who to bring to Chichester...maybe the Serama pair and whatever serama chicks I will have. Also whatever else hatches from the boatload of eggs in the bators. Fingers crossed here so will know bwtter at weeks end! Yippeeeee!

Well, little man got out of his tub/cage and was terrorizing the serama roo and his gals in the little coop! I had to make sure the cover was tied down when I pur him back in. I wormed him and gave him his iver-on treatment even though we didnt see any creepie crawlies. I like to treat anyway just in case! He has a good appetite and will be getting dubbed on friday or Saturday hopefully to clean up that frostbitten comb! My mother hen was getting off her nest to eat on a pretty regular basis, so she had really good body weight believe it or not. I have got the wierdest birds. My 2 auacanas are so friendly and so is the silkie/polish hen they are in with. but they seem to drink sooo much water! I hope my new bator arrives tomorrow cause i have 4 dozen more eggs waiting on the coffee table! hee hee

Make that six dozen.

I now have three very full bators going and one in lockdown. I just had to help one out a little. I have been hearing it peep for two days now and when I went to take out the one that hatched yesterday it was really chirpping away to me. The hole wasn't much bigger than it was when I checked on it last night and it sounded distressed so I just helped it finish zipping and its a good thing I did. It is huge. It couldn't move to zip. I warmed up a facecloth and just managed to get the top half of the shell and membrane off it and it popped his/little head out and I put it back in to let it finish hatching.
I hate not being able to see in there to see what is going on. It does hold the temps real good though.
I filled the bottom with water again while I had it open. I am hoping I didnt let out too much humidity.

Make that six dozen.

One night Janet and I were peeling serama chicks out of the eggs at my house. They need such a high humidity and it is hard to keep it that high. I wasted more time peeling seramas out of eggs than anything else!!! i use a cup of warm water and a soft paintbrush to wet the membranes then they popped out! Keeping the humidity is the hardest thing I find to do.

I dont see any red, but the 2 I have are sooo friendly, they jump out the door of the cage looking for attention. The black silkie/polish cross is also so nice too that I got that day!

OK, so the mother hen and chick saga continues...need to write a comic book on this fiasco! Today I go and feed everyone before leaving for work, then I let mother hen out of the doghouse with her 6 chicks she has left (one sems to have vanished) and while I was putting down her feed bowl, I heard her screaming and flapping towards me like a mad woman! Then I get the top of my head brushed with a wing....from a HAWK !!!! Son of a gun was aiming for the babies, which were at my feet and she came at either me or the hawk and I get a wack in the head by this hawks wing. I have no idea why...but all I could yell was HEY! What the heck!! I took one of those littel portable chicken tractors and plopped it down over the mother hen and chicks and put something heavy on the top so hopefully the hawk wont have a buffet while I am at work! Now to get some cd's to hang!
