Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

How early do you start training? Inside or outside? How long do you work? How long do you work on each command before switching to the next? (In the same session)

Inside, less distractions. As soon as the dog is settled into my home, but try not to overwork your puppy. They burn out much faster than adults. In the same session, whenever the dog is understanding the command enough that switching to another one isn't going to be confusing

Why so hostile? She seemed great, with loads of experience, you don’t need to be sarcastic and rude

Oh because she only put down half of the people here by saying there is no reason it should take years to train a dog recall.

It is a VERY hard command. I know SEVERAL people (especially pet owners) who struggled with recall together.

also, if I where her, I'd be EXITED AND PROUD to explain how my puppy learned a proofed recall, but no.. they just poofed. I am not sure I believe them. A solid reliable recall takes more than 6 months to train, sorry.

I know that some people (carefully) outcross breeds to change the traits.....could the same be done to increase the breeding population? If you crossed Breed A to Breed B, then Back to a different dog of Breed A, over and over, would eventually have purebred Breed A dogs again? Or does that not make any sense to do?
I would think so, people do that with chickens sometimes. Breed In barred rocks and stuff to improve the barring and things like that.
