Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

How do you make sure that you're exercising your dog enough while avoiding superdog syndrome?
Mostly common sense, plus whatever is convenient for you and your family.

Less than 10 minutes per day is probably too little.

If the dog gets more than 2 hours of exercise every day and still acts crazy, consider training the dog to be calm, instead of adding even more exercise. (Exception: if you actually hike or run for more than that each day, of course you can take the dog along. Just don't add exercise purely to try to tire out the dog.)

It probably works best if you keep the amount of exercise fairly consistent from week to week, even if it varies from day to day. So a long Saturday of hiking or swimming might be followed by a few lazy days, or you might try to do extra exercise on Thursday and Friday if you need the dog to nap while you do other things on Saturday.
