Chickerdoodle13's Photography Classroom (*New Assignment* Pg6 Post54)

Wow! Some great pictures! I will give an actual critique once I'm done setting up my DNA gels here at the lab.

I also have a great second lesson in the works. I'm thinking it will involve the effects of shutter speed on action! It's a little more difficult to set up lessons to learn the technical aspects of your camera because everyone has different cameras, but I think I have a good way to make it work. I will most likely post it before this first assignment is due to give everyone some time to think about what subjects they will use.

Texasgal,

I've been quite active on BYC since working in the lab! We have so much downtime! Today my downtime is in spurts though, so it's difficult to sit down and do anything for a longer period of time.

I'm going to try and make the assignment so everybody can do it. I will most likely give a lesson on what shutter speed and aperture mean and then the actual assignment. The people who can control the shutter speed can work with that and their action shots, but the people who can't can still just practice taking action shots! Don't worry though! I will make it so you will be able to participate!

You may be able to in a round about way. If your camera has preprogrammed settings. The one specifically for action would be a quicker shutter speed, and the one for low light or night shots would slow it down. You wouldn't be able to be precise though.

That is a good point! It would be neat to play around with. Another thing to think about for the next assignment is something everyone can use as a tripod. It doesn't have to be an actual tripod, but needs to be something steady that you can set your camera on to take pictures using a slower shutter speed. If you have access to an actual tripod, that would be even better! Otherwise you can use a stack of books, a sturdy crate or box, or I've found fenceposts to work well too!

A hand held bean bag ball works real well to, put it on a steady surface and you can angle your camera and be steady too.

1. Post a picture that you have taken (If you don't have ANY pictures, feel free to take some and post your favorite). I would like this picture to be something you are proud of. This will serve as both an example of your work for me to see where all of my "students" are and also as inspiration for other posters for future assignments.

2. Find a picture that another photographer has taken that inspires you. You can get this picture from the internet, a magazine, book, etc. You don't have to post this picture, but I would like to keep it somewhere that you can see it often. If you would like to show everyone else the picture you have chosen as an inspirational piece, that is fine and you can post it here.

3. State one thing you feel you are very good at when it comes to photography.

4. State one thing you would like to learn or improve in your photography.
Anything really.
5. State anything you feel you would like to see in a future lesson. (This is optional, but it will help me create assignments that are suited to what the students want to learn. If I do not feel qualified to teach a particular subject, I will try to find someone who can.) Colour effects etc.

6. Say what kind of camera you are using (inlcuding the lenses you have if using an SLR), so I can better tailor the assignments to your camera's capabilities.
