Chickerdoodle13's Photography Classroom (*New Assignment* Pg6 Post54)

Okay here is mine. Picking just one pic was hard I did choose 2 though.

This a recent one within the last few weeks I've taken. It is one of my current favorites for several reasons. I really enjoy macro photography, and like the idea of taking average mundane things and showing their intrinsic beauty. This is a cuke leaf and tendril.

I chose this one b/c it was the first time I learned to "soften" water w/ the shutter speed. This was at a local park the spring before last. I also chose this one b/c scenic is something I need to work on and I thought I had done a very good job w/ scenic in this one.

3. I do macro and flowers very well.

4. I need to improve in scenic, and especially people. I would love to learn more about lighting especially in making dramatic portraiture w/ lighting in black and white. Also I would love to learn more about the camera settings/functions.

The above things are what I'd like to see in some of the classes.

My camera is a nikon d60, I have a nikor 55-200 lens w/ a couple of macro filters I can put on them. (have an 18-55 too but it is broken) also a tamron 18-270 I have a macro 10x filter I can put on it, but have not liked the distortion.

Wonderful pictures! I also really like your inspiration shot. What an awesome use of light. I also love the way the tone is similar throughout the entire photo. Definitely a picture that tells a story!

You first shot has very nice direction. The road draws my eye nicely to the sun. The colors of the photo are also very nice! I like the mixture of the darker foreground with the lighter, pastel background. When looking at the photo it gives me a very peaceful feeling.

I especially like your second photo. I know from experience that horses can be HARD to photograph! I love the action and position of the horses. You caught them both at a perfect time and the expression in their eyes is wonderful. I also really like that both subjects are in focus. Gorgeous horses and a wonderful picture of them!

You guys are very impressive with your photos! I have seen a lot of everyone's work before, but I'm really enjoying taking a deeper look into all the photos.

I'm guessing your first photo is some kind of squash! Very nice detail and I love the depth of field. I don't have a macro lens myself but I should probably look into one of these filters! I really like the curly-q you captured here, especially with all those little hairs on it! Your lighting is also very good and I like that the tone is consistent throughout the entire photo.

This second photo is stunning though! Looks like something I would print up and put on my wall! You did an excellent slowing down your shutter speed. It is something I've been trying to work on myself and it can be difficult sometimes to get a focused picture without a tripod if you slow it down too much. The colors in this photo are beautiful and I love the way the tree is framing the waterfall. Gorgeous color and I love the texture in the water. Very, very nice!

Well I certainly have to say I like your choice of inspiration!

I'm flattered that my work is inspiring to you!

I think your picture showcases a very creative view of the pea blossom! I love the white against the blue background. I know you had posted some pictures of the pea blossom a little while back and there was one with a cloud that I really liked. I thought it really complimented the flower nicely. I would have liked to see a little bit more of the plant in the photo, but that is mostly personal preference. Having the subject in the corner has left a lot of clean, blue negative space, which I do think makes the photo interesting. The view definitely makes me feel like I am looking at a giant pea blossom! I always thought that was a neeat way of taking flower pictures because it allows you to see the world in a way you normally do not. Very creative! Keep up the good work!

1. A photo of mine. This is from a photo shoot I did with my DH in a costume he put together (he's really into Halloween.)

2. I love this shot of heirloom tomatoes at Seed Savers Exchange. I find the variety incredibly beautiful.

3. I think I'm good at framing a shot (I worked at a portrait studio for 8 months.)

4. I want to learn just what the heck aperture is.

5. I really wanna learn how to adjust shutter speed manually without the photo ending up a disaster.

6. Nikon D40, 18-55MM lens. Am in desperate want of a macro lens.

If you don't have a macro lens b/c of cost of the lens, you can get "macro filters" to put on the end of your lens they work pretty well for the cost (around $20) I have a set for my small lens that works great, but when I went up the my bigger (diameter) lens it doesn't work as well.

1. Post a picture that you have taken (If you don't have ANY pictures, feel free to take some and post your favorite). I would like this picture to be something you are proud of. This will serve as both an example of your work for me to see where all of my "students" are and also as inspiration for other posters for future assignments.

2. Find a picture that another photographer has taken that inspires you. You can get this picture from the internet, a magazine, book, etc. You don't have to post this picture, but I would like to keep it somewhere that you can see it often. If you would like to show everyone else the picture you have chosen as an inspirational piece, that is fine and you can post it here.
http://www.oliviacollins.com/ This is Horsefeathers, from BYC's Website, all of her pictures inspire me.
3. State one thing you feel you are very good at when it comes to photography.
Animals and capturing a good moment
4. State one thing you would like to learn or improve in your photography.
Mostly everything!
5. State anything you feel you would like to see in a future lesson. (This is optional, but it will help me create assignments that are suited to what the students want to learn. If I do not feel qualified to teach a particular subject, I will try to find someone who can.)
How to to good self portraits, better animal shots...
6. Say what kind of camera you are using (inlcuding the lenses you have if using an SLR), so I can better tailor the assignments to your camera's capabilities.
Canon EOS 1000d with a 18-55 lens
