I am a huge fan of Halloween, so I love your photo! It definitely leaves me wondering what the rest of the story is. The grey tone of the photo raises the hair on the back of my neck. While the photo itself is not terrifying, the mixture of subjects certainly has a creepy undertone. Also a very interesting angle! That is not an angle I would have thought of doing in a photoshoot of a person, so great job on that! The photo certainly leaves me wanting more, but I am also a bit hesitant to know what the rest of the person looks like! What are this person's intentions? Is he just going to work in a mine on a cold Fall day? Is he dangerous? The blurred branches in front of the pick are a little bit distracting for me, but that is definitely a photo I would hang up for Halloween!

I really like your fuzzie butt pictures! (Are they peachicks?) Those are very nice low light shots and they are nice and focused. I especially like the second close up! The first one has a very nice relaxed feel to it. It makes me want to curl up and take a nap too! Out of the two, I really like the second one better because the light is really framing the baby's head and brings out the subject quite nicely. The first one is very nice too, but the head is getting a bit lost in the shadow.

I like face close up you have here. The eyes are nice and focused and the close up view makes me wonder what else is going on.

The horse photo is gorgeous. It is very difficult to get a nice clear action shot of horses! I definitely think that photo would really benefit from a crop of the horse. That would help cut out some of the background to bring your focus right to the horse.

Beautiful swans! Are they yours? I really like the effect of the shadow in this photo. It certainly gives the picture a directional flow from the swans to the corner.

Your second picture is just too funny! Talk about having your camera ready at the right time! Your subject looks to be in good focus and I just love the humorous feel this photo has! Excellent picture!

ETA: I absolutely love your inspirational photo. That really makes me drool

Thank you! We spent a few hours at an abandoned building taking shots. Our friend played the 'victim' in some pics. The costume is from the movie My Bloody Valentine, so yes, he is definitely dangerous!

Here's DH's blog, for the rest of the story. http://thescarecrowspost.blogspot.com/2009/11/harry-warden-returns.html

Lighting can definitely be a tricky thing to master, especially when taking outside photos in natural light. Nature doesn't always like to cooperate with us!

Your photo is stunning. I love the blue-ish tone of the photo and the rays of light coming down from the clouds are just beautiful. That looks like a very peaceful and serene landscape and reflection of the light on the water is dazzling! Very nice!

That is so awesome to see the rest of the pictures. Definitely not what I was expecting him to look like! I still absolutely love the feel of your original photo though. There's just something about it that is so eerie, especially when you can't see a face or mask!

ETA: I think a managed to respond to everybody's assignment so far! Please let me know if I have missed anybody. I will have some time throughout today so I will get working on the next assignment and hopefully have it posted sometime soon.

The face close up was a self portrait that I literally just put my arms out, turned the camera so it was facing me, and took it. As i was trying to show my mum how to take a picture with my camera lol.

Assignment #1:

This was much harder than it seems. At least to me.

1. Post a picture that you have taken (If you don't have ANY pictures, feel free to take some and post your favorite). I would like this picture to be something you are proud of. This will serve as both an example of your work for me to see where all of my "students" are and also as inspiration for other posters for future assignments.

I have been trying to figure out how to take good pics of lightening.

2. Find a picture that another photographer has taken that inspires you. You can get this picture from the internet, a magazine, book, etc. You don't have to post this picture, but I would like to keep it somewhere that you can see it often. If you would like to show everyone else the picture you have chosen as an inspirational piece, that is fine and you can post it here.

Funny to me, I didn't have one so I googled and searched. This one spoke to me.

3. State one thing you feel you are very good at when it comes to photography.
Pushing the button.

Sorting out afterwards the better pics from the junk.

4. State one thing you would like to learn or improve in your photography.
Just one? Ok, I think if I could learn and understand the basics of the camera I think that will help immensely.

5. State anything you feel you would like to see in a future lesson. (This is optional, but it will help me create assignments that are suited to what the students want to learn. If I do not feel qualified to teach a particular subject, I will try to find someone who can.)
Macro, depth of field, focusing at night.

6. Say what kind of camera you are using (inlcuding the lenses you have if using an SLR), so I can better tailor the assignments to your camera's capabilities.
I use a Canon Xsi. I have a 35-135mm, a 18-55mm, and a 100-300mm.
