Hey guys! I've gotten some great ideas from the art threads in the Fun and Games section of the message forum. Hopefully nobody gets upset that I am posting this here because a few of us have discussed starting a "photography classroom". I see MSbear has already started a great assignment! I'm starting this thread, but hopefully a few of us will be able to collaborate and run classrooms alongside eachother. I think for now I will begin with some beginner lessons, but seasoned photographers feel free to join in. If anyone else has an idea for a lesson let me know and we can add it or start your own thread!
Assignment #1:
This is not really an assignment, but more of an introduction and a short lesson on how to post pictures for those who don't already know. There will be a couple of steps so I will number them and explain what to do for each one. If you don't know how to post pictures and you would like to learn how, I will include some links to instructions, but feel free to ask me if you need additional help. I will include my email address for you to contact me.
1. Post a picture that you have taken (If you don't have ANY pictures, feel free to take some and post your favorite). I would like this picture to be something you are proud of. This will serve as both an example of your work for me to see where all of my "students" are and also as inspiration for other posters for future assignments.
2. Find a picture that another photographer has taken that inspires you. You can get this picture from the internet, a magazine, book, etc. You don't have to post this picture, but I would like to keep it somewhere that you can see it often. If you would like to show everyone else the picture you have chosen as an inspirational piece, that is fine and you can post it here.
3. State one thing you feel you are very good at when it comes to photography.
4. State one thing you would like to learn or improve in your photography.
5. State anything you feel you would like to see in a future lesson. (This is optional, but it will help me create assignments that are suited to what the students want to learn. If I do not feel qualified to teach a particular subject, I will try to find someone who can.)
6. Say what kind of camera you are using (inlcuding the lenses you have if using an SLR), so I can better tailor the assignments to your camera's capabilities.
I would like everyone interested in joining this classroom to have this assignment done by Monday, July 18th. I will do a brief critique of everyone's posted work, but I will get more detailed and specific as we get deeper into the real assignments.

You can also post pictures from your facebook account and a variety of other websites, including your BYC account. Photobucket and flickr are two of the more popular ones and both are fairly easy to use.

One additional item:
I realize there will be people looking to join in this thread after the first assignment has already been completed. That is perfectly fine and you can jump right in with whatever assignment we are on. However, I would like everyone to complete this first assignment regardless of where you start. You can certainly go back and hand in the other assignments, even if they are late and I will try my best to critique them for you. I would also like the other students to join in and give constructive criticism as well. It is always great to get peer reviews!
