That's Great!

does anyone else candle every day? i can't help it, they change so much at first it's neat to watch! as you get towards the end you can't see anything so i usally stop candling, but the begining is so exciting!!

I just candled all the eggs in the incubator. The 4 BCMs under the silkie, I'll leave alone for now.

Here's the current status (day 14):

4 out of 4 BCMs are good
2-3 of 4 Olive Eggers are doing well
But only 1 out of the 6 Ameraucanas looks good. 2 more are most likely duds, but I left them in just in case.
I opened three that definetely didn't have anything in them, and they hadn't even started developing at all. Nothing.

So, the Ameraucana tally is disappointing, just my luck if that one turned out to be a roo...
The only reason I ordered these eggs was that I really wanted some green eggs. My hatchery "ameraucana" turned out to be an EE and doesn't even lay colored eggs!

But I should be good on the BCM and Olive Egger front.

Oh goodie! How are the other three pips going?

I just put my potential feathered monsters in lockdown, so we will see how this goes. I candled once more last night and could see movement in all the white eggs, except for one Silkie it seems he gave up around day 14. So I have 17 Silkies, 3 OEGB, 6 E.E, 3 Sex-Links, 3 Standard Game, and 5 mixed to await upon.

Woke up this morning to a chirping incubator. I thought it was just a talkative egg/baby, but it is my first pip ever in an incubator. It is a little standard gamefowl.

How is everyone else doing?

I had to relocate the broody silkie day before yesterday.
Made her a nice nest in a dog crate with food and water, away from the other chickens, put her in there and kept an eye on her for a while to make sure she stayed where she was. Next morning, she had relocated the eggs within the crate and one of the four eggs was not completely under her and cooler than the others. She relocated again to another corner later and hasn't moved an inch since. It got pretty cold here again, so I took the crate inside. She is definitely not moving at all now.
Let's hope the disturbance didn't mess anything up.

The incubator is not at my house, so I'm not tempted to break lock-down...

Haven't seen the eggs since I candled on Day 14, so no idea how things are going over there.
RoadRunner's talk about chirping is NOT helping my patience... 2-3 more days to go...

Well I hope it goes okay. Life has a certain hardyness to it, that is for sure. My Silkie has a hard time, holding all her eggs under her as well due to shifting, so I made a 1ft by 1ft wooden nesting box, that is 1 ft high. In it I put a bowl of straw, and then the eggs. She can now cover 12 eggs without any of them getting chilled, or misplaced. Had better hatch rate with her last year with this nesting box as well. Best of luck!
