I am planning on getting 8 chicks from the feed store at three separate dates.

So on date one (March 31st), I would get the speckled sussex and an EE.
Then on date two (April 7th), two EE's, one BLRW, and one ancona.
On the third date (April 28th), an RIR and a dark brahma.

I am wondering two things.

(one) Would it be safe to get only two chicks on two dates? I'm worried that I get two that will look perfectly healthy and then one will die, and the other would be raised alone. Since I am planning on putting date one and two chicks together to be raised, I could always get a third chick on date three (they have cuckoo marans!

) and then if one dies, I have a backup.
(two) Would it be okay if after I bring the second batch of chicks home, I just put them with the first?

Thank you all for your help!
