Hello everyone! This is my first time ever encountering coccidiosis. My chicks are now done with their 2 week treatment on corrid (2 teaspoons per gallon of water). They were quite ill i changed bedding food and water everyday (there was blood everywhere it seemed like). I was told to do a 2 week treatment by a friend. Most are doing much better, however some are still puffed up alot of the time 2 are moving and eating and drinking and 1 is still lethargic and is now not eating or drinking much (that ive seen) and the 1 also doesnt want treats. She is 6-7 weeks old. Did i not do the treatment right? Was i supposed to treat longer? Is it something else? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I lost 1 chick to cocci and I'm hoping i dont lose anymore. (They're also on medicated feed.) Thanks in advance!

It sounds like they had a very bad strain of coccidiosis. With the Corid, they really need to drink enough of it to get the benefits of the medicine. After treatment, it is good to give some chick vitamins and some probiotics or a small bit of plain yogurt to get the gut bacteria back to normal. If they still are acting sick, you may want to take some droppings in to your vet for a fecal test. They can also have another lower dose treatment in a few weeks with the Corid if they are still sickly. I'm not a vet, so I would endourage you to look up some information by Googling coccidiosis in chickens.

So I edited my post to teaspoons not tablespoons lol. They're starting to show signs again today of a little blood in their poo and their still puffed up. Do I restart the same dosage of corid? Is it harmful to put more in their water?

Anyone? Please... Has anyone had continued issues after 2 weeks of treatment?

I would take some droppings into the vet for testing to see if cocci is still a problem. I would be tempted to start another round of Corid, but they might need another stronger drug. Sulfa antibiotics are no longer available without a prescription. Enteritis can be a problem that can happen to some chicks after a bout of coccidiosis. The vet could do a gram stain on the droppings for that. I have never had a case of cocci in my flock, but if you need more advice, I would PM Casportpony for advice.
