Chicks all piled up?

No I think your fine!! Mine do the same thing and they have an 85 watt bulb laying directly on top the 90qt tote on a screen. Their in my bedroom so no drafts either and they will still sleep all up in a pile laying side by side where you can't see the bottom of the tote. Mine are 2-3 weeks old!!

If they are too cold they will be cheeping like crazy! I was in the same room as the brooder when the heat light burned out. Within a couple minutes they were yelling at me!

Laying out wing to wing is normal .... Isn't that cute!

Ok...I just want to know where the pictures are! LOL!

I just checked on my lil chicklettes and they are sleeping all together, quietly, and seemingly happy. I am just going to leave them. They sleep so oddly though....with their necks all stretched out in front of them

I think they sound good.

Mine all like to sleep RIGHT next to each other, even when they are very warm.
If they are cold, they peep loudly and pile up trying to huddle - sometimes to the point of suffocating the ones underneath.
Stretched out and quiet under the light is just fine.

Yeah that. LOUD

I freaked this morning, coz it came a storm last night and tripped my outside GFI outlet --- the one that my freezer and brooder lamps are plugged into!!! NO idea how long those lamps were off last night!! At least it wasn't too cold during the storm (hot and humid really, but even 60*F is cold to a 8-day old chick!!) I was afraid I'd find weak or dead chicks!!

But when I looked they were just pecking around like nothing was up!!

Trust me if they are too cold they will cheep LOUDLY and won't stop.
I had some last fall that ALWAYS slept as close to the lamp as they could get, which worried me, but when they were awake they acted normal and never complained about being cold. I just learned to trust them to keep themselves comfortable.

Thank you all for the great examples and reassurance! The information is like a nice dose of "calm the heck down lady"
