Hello all! Mama of 3 beautiful silkie chicks ranging in age from 6 days old- 2 1/2 weeks old. At what age did you start introducing treats such as fruit and veggies? What were your first offerings?

Soil from the yard with grass in it, helps promote immunity to cocci, I started that at 3 or 4 days... Fruits and veggies might cause loose poop. Give them oyster shell when adding new foods other than their chick feed.

I currently have their bedding as pine shavings and grass(my kids pick it so lots of dirt gets clumped in it too) and they love it.

They are old enough to start on fruits and vegetables for treats. No more than 10% of their total food, though. Make sure they have grit available first, though. No oyster shell until they are laying age, they won’t need the extra calcium until then.

My littles liked strawberries the best. I cut them up into chick sized pieces and they would run around like crazy for them.
