I'm 10 days away from hatching 13 eggs, and I have hatched some eggs last year, and I just took them away from the mother about 2-3 days after hatching. How long is the recommended period to leave the chicks with the mother.

Ok, I have about 40 chickens including 4 roosters, would you think they would kill them.I have always left chicks with the mother until she weaned them naturally - generally after 4 + weeks.
I always keep my chicks with mama in a sectioned off area of the coop. The adults can see them and get used to them but they cannot touch. A large wire dog crate works great but you have to put something around the sides about 6 inches up or the babies will squeeze thru.Ok, I have about 40 chickens including 4 roosters, would you think they would kill them.
