Chicks are getting too cold!

Can you put the 2 ducks in with the chicks and then everyone can use the pool? Then there wouldn't be over crowding. They could huddle if they want, but would have room to move, too.

As for the deaths, hard to say. Maybe stress from shipping? Maybe an illness. I wish I could help you there. It's so hard to lose them.

Sometimes you lose a few to shipping stress.

They definitely need more room...the sooner the better.
Put them all in the larger brooder, if that's the only option, covering most the wire with cardboard to reduce the outside cold.

90-95 degrees on the floor right under the light.... but they also need a cooler area of the brooder.

Get some corid or ampril (brand names for amporillium) it is a coccidiostat. If they are pooping blood, that is probably the problem. Likely due to overcrowded and/or unsanitary conditions.

I hope you can get everything worked out for these guys. And start them on electrolyte solution as soon as you can. The calf stuff should be good to use. I can't speak as to dosage because I don't k ow what it is or have the packet on hand. It may have instructions for poultry on the packetm

Bloody poop is almost definitely coccidiosis!

I just looked up the dosage for corrid today:

The Corid 20% soluble powder dosage is 1/2 teaspoon per gallon of water for 5 days.
Make it fresh daily, don't add anything to it such as ACV, electrolytes, vitamins etc.
Must be their sole source of treated water to drink.

I also broke down the quantity for a smaller amount of water:
1/2 tsp 4 Qts
1/4 tsp 2 Qts
1/8 tsp 1 Qt
1/16 tsp 1 Pint

ETA: Here's the dosage for Corid 9.6% liquid solution ..... 9.5cc's per gallon of water for 5 days.

Got these from this post....this guy is good with meds.

Orschelns didn't have corid, but they had probiotics. I got them probiotics and electrolytes, both the sav-a-chick brand, and mixed both into their water. I also changed their feed to medicated, and moved the ones that still acted healthy. 4 weren't moving, so I left them in the old cage and put the others in my clean cage. They are doing good, and also have all of the same medications to keep them from catching it. One of the infected 4 yawned and opened his eyes, he noticed that everybody left and jumped up and ran around the cage chirping and trying to fly to the others! Turns out, he wasn't infected, just a REALLY heavy sleeper!! I even poked him and he didn't wake up

every few minutes I would dip the 3 sick chicks beaks in the medicated water. They might survive, its still hard to tell. Thanks for all of the help! I will continue to update on what happens.

You need coccidiosis medication at a treatment level, not the prevention level, which is what medicated feed has in it.
Hope your little guys make it. The medicine is also called Ampril.
You can also use Tylan (I believe, but need to check before you buy it) but that is an antibiotic, so there are other ramifications you will need to take into account.

If your chicks have coccidiosis, medicated feed will do nothing nor will probiotics. You need to purchase a coccidiostat such as Corid(amprolium). Dose for Corid 9.6% liquid is 2 tsp per gallon of water, dose for Corid 20% powder is 1-1.5 tsp per gallon of water. Treat ALL chicks for 5 days,DO NOT give vitamins during treatment as they intefer with the ability of the coccidiostat to work, give vitamins after treatment is complete.Make sure medicated water is the only source of drinking water.

Tylan will not help with coccidiosis as cocci is a parasitic infection of the intestinal tract.
