Chicks are getting too cold!

Corid(brand name) Amprolium(medication)can be found in the cattle section and it will say for cattle, but is safe for poultry and one of the best coccidiostats.

If you cannot locate corid, you can give them buttermilk as it will coat the intestines and may help. Search forum for other products to give while you locate corid.

Your chicks need a lot more room. That area might work for 4 - 6 chicks for a couple of weeks. They need to be able to get under the heat, but it's just as important for them to be able to get away from the heat. You really need 2 brooder lamps if you are brooding ducks in a separate container. How old are the ducks? Can you put them all in the kiddie pool? It really should have cardboard around the sides to help hold the heat in. You can research "home made electrolyte for chicks". I wish you the best in getting your babies set up so they can be comfortable and warm enough.

I moved the chicks inside last night because it was 17 degrees outside! Right now, they are in a huge cardboard box. I only have 25 chicks out of 33 left;(. The rest of the chicks don't appear to be sick. I am still giving them meds tho. The ducks are the same age, and they came inside too. Everybody is staying inside for a couple days until it warms up again. I just hope my Chihuahua leaves them alone!

No more bloody poops?
What meds are you giving them?
Bloody poop is gone. I haven't lost any for over a week. The total I lost was 8. They were having electrolytes and probiotics but they are off meds now and acting like regular healthy chicks!!

Quote: I guess I don't consider electrolytes and probiotics to be meds, more like supplements......am very surprised there were bloody poops and you didn't treat for coccidiosis....maybe they were just shedding a bit of intestinal tissue rather than the bloody poops that accompany cocci?
