Chicks are here, Finally. I blame GENERAL DELIVERY.

New York. Gangs = ok. Chickens =

Wonder what would happened if you ordered from My Pet Llama?

Fascinating story on so many levels. I grew up in NYC and I love that I know NOW that you are allowed to have UNLIMITED numbers of chickens in NYC as they are considered pets. Mind you, you are supposed to take care of them and provide them with appropriate housing and care, so ideally you get what you can handle. Can't remember where I learned this--City Chickens maybe?
I am very sorry for you that you had to go through that. You handled it well, you can't get pushed around.

BUT this is the most interesting part: earlier today I posted an email response I received from MPC about drop shipping- We're not a drop ship service, exactly. We do work with a hatchery, but use our own incubator space, employ our own chick sexers (for instance, My Pet Chicken is the only place in the country that sexes bantams), have our own breeds and so on. For non-live items, we have our own My Pet Chicken warehouse and supplies, but do have others fulfill sometimes, depending on the item--some of our coops come directly from the manufacturer or builders, for example.

Sooooo, do they get their own eggs and hatch them (which is what I assumed) or do they get the chicks? What if they have incubator space at these hatcheries and send from those locations? The shipping labels say Ohio, correct (or whichever state)?

Fascinating...the plot thickens.

Off to email again...

Sorry for your aggravating day, but I enjoyed your rant. It's not very often one hears a diatribe worth listening to.
Good luck with the General & Co.

Wow, sorry you had such a hassle getting your chicks.

I have a question - you said you rode the subway. So what was it like on the subway with a box labeled live chickens? Did people ask you questions and want to see them? I am trying to picture all of this and it sounds like you went through a lot.

Well I am glad they are home safe with you now.

1: I edited the original post. My mistake, the fingers were flying on the keys and I didn't catch myself. IF you've quoted me, please edit the quote!

2: We have a back yard. Our apartment is lucky enough to have a yard (and a spare bathroom to raise the chicks in while I build a coop!)

3: The box of chicks was in a canvas bag. Nobody could see the chicks, but everyone had a very questionable look on their faces about the noises coming from the bag.

4: MPLlama! Brilliant. Although I think overnighting a Llamma might be cost prohibitive. Someone's got a chance to make some cash if they start it!

5: Sorry McMurrey Hatchery. I haven't ever dealt with you before!

All three chicks are doing great. Eating, drinking and staying warm under the heat lamp. I kinda feared for my SLW, but she finally quit falling asleep on her feet and falling on her face.

Cheers,
B
