Chicks arrived from hatchery this morning - woohoo! All seem active, drank water and had clean butts - another woohoo!

The hatchery included a "Rare Exotic" chick with my order of Barred Rocks and Silver Laced Wyandottes, so I was wondering if anyone might recognize the breed of the two-day old chick.

Thanks,

Nan in VA

What hatchery did you order from? Does the chick have fluffy cheeks? If so, it looks like an EE, but I don't think they're rare exotic. Congrats on the healthy chicks!! :)

That chick looks just like one of my EE's when she was a baby, and it looks to have the puffy cheeks from the top view. I'd have to say EE too.

@ Pioneer Chicken... They always list them on their websites, and in their catalogs as "rare" for some reason.

With the fluffy cheeks I'd definitely go with Easter Egger. Like Hezz said, hatcheries list them as rare and exotic.

Murry McMurry hatchery often uses Easter Egger roosters as their extra exotic chick, and it looks like that is what you got.

The shipment was from McMurray. Two of the SL Wyandottes were dead six hours after putting them in the brooder. The others are looking active. Hope that's all the losses.
Didn't know what an EE was, but after searching on this website, I'm guessing that is what it is.
Thanks.

it looks like an easter egger (ee). it's basically a mix that carries/possesses the blue egg laying gene which means you could get any color egg from that chick if its a pullet
