Hooray, my chicks arrived this morning! But, there is bad news, too - three of my five babies were dead.

I am so sad for those little babies, but the peep peep peeping of the other two are making me smile.

MPC doesn't open until 10 am, but I will be calling them as soon as they open. They have a guarantee that reads that if more than half of your chicks have died on arrival they replace and ship them for free. We will see.
Happy and sad,
Kim

Aww so sorry to hear some of your babies didn't make it. All of my experiences with MPC so far have been great so hopefully they get the other babies out to you quickly and safely! I get to call them today as well since one of my sexed hens turned into a boy...

PulletSurpriseWinner just had this happen too but to all her chicks. I think it's the heat - shipping any chicks right now is a very dicey situation. Good luck with your two survivors. Perhaps get your other shipment during cooler temps? Though I know it's hard to have chicks of different ages. Too bad there isn't a better way to ship.

I called MPC yesterday. They were so understanding and wonderful! They send my 3 replacements when those breeds are available. My two other girls are doing well.

4 weeks ago, I ordered the Brown Layer pack, a Golden Polish, & Rare Breeds. My Golden Polish died after I'd had her for 72 hours. My son was devistated. But all in all, my experience with MPC was great. There was great communication. Out of 18 chicks, she was the only one that parished. Great Luck and enjoy your new babies. They are lots of fun.

Kim, I am so glad that you have some happy healthy babies and they will be taking care of the rest of your order.
We ordered our very first set from them for delivery this week and all 5 were doa. The girl at customer service was really nice and said that they were having lots of issues with East Coast deliveries. I've never been through this before. I'm hoping they can schedule a new shipment date that works for us. The coop is built. The kids are excited, we just need our babies.

Good luck with your new arrivals.

We need an east coast hatchery!

Reading all these I feel like I won the lottery getting all my babies intact last month. I am guessing it isn't any extra long delays, it's just the heat that they have no protection from. Maybe if they arrive in 24 hrs they're OK, but any longer is too much. I was puzzled with my own order - another BYCer lives farther out from a postal hub in CT but she got hers next-day. Mine took from Monday to Wednesday morning. Who knows? The post office themselves couldn't really answer anything more than what was visible on tracking, which essentially said they left......and they arrived.

I'm actually surprised hatcheries ship at this time of year.
