I have 5, 7 week old chicks in side in a tube they have some down left but mostly fathered. My only problem is there are big chickens out in the coop I was wondering should i block of a section and put them in there and make them some room to run around in or keep them inside the big ones can get out side should I let them out to

I've never introduced young ones to a flock before, but there are a lot of threads on here discussing the best way to do that. As to whether or not they are old enough to go out...what are the temps in your area?

I sectioned off an area in the coop with wire fence for the smaller ones but mine didn't need the lamp anymore. I had issues with the big girls flying in to check them out so if you do this make sure they are secure. You can add a lamp for them also, I did this in my second coop. Hope this helps...

Hello

I had new chickens and wondered about adding them with my established hens. People on BYC gave me some great ideas (since I found out that adding chicks with hens is a bad idea! They can harm/kill the little ones in trying to establish a pecking order). Anyways, here are some ideas: 1) keep the younger chickens in a seperate cage/fenced area, but next to the older chickens so they can get used to each other 2) when the younger chickens get big and able to defend themselves try putting them togethr, this may go easier if they have been next to eachj other for a while 3) free roam them together then if they fight there is plenty of room for the younger ones to get away. I personally have been putting my young chickens out in a pen next to my hens, but I have yet to leave them outside do to weather conditions. I am planning on free roaming them togethr and hope for the best

They are ready to move outside... The Other hens will kill a few if you combine them. I suggest keeping them away from each other in confined spaces! I have mine in a coop made just for them!
